Dental Fillings Emerald Isle, NC

Dental Fillings An Overview

Dental fillings are typically used to repair teeth with minor decay or damage. Dental fillings are a routine dental treatment that can help repair and protect teeth, stabilize your oral health and prevent tooth loss.

Dr. Aubrey Myers offers several different dental filling options for the repair of minor to advanced tooth decay. Every patient will receive a comprehensive dental health exam followed by one-on-one consultation with Dr. Myers. You will have time to discuss your cosmetic goals and treatment options, so that you may make an informed decision about your oral health.

Types of Dental Fillings

  • Resin Dental Fillings: White dental fillings have become the preferred dental filling method. Made from a biocompatible composite resin, white fillings can be color matched to your natural teeth for a discreet treatment option. Resin dental fillings can last for many years with proper oral hygiene. White fillings can also be used to replace old, unsightly metal fillings and provide an instant smile makeover.
  • Amalgam Dental Fillings: Amalgam dental fillings are traditional metal fillings. This cost effective alternative helps restore teeth and protect them from future decay.
  • Inlay & Onlay- For more advanced tooth decay a porcelain inlay or onlay may be recommended. Inlay and Onlays are better suited for large, or hard to reach areas of tooth decay. Often referred to as a partial dental crown, inlays & onlays are a more conservative and lasting treatment option for advanced tooth decay or damage.

Dental Fillings What to Expect

Dental fillings are a routine dental treatment option that can typically be completed in one visit to our Emerald Isle dentist office. Patients typically experience little to no discomfort and are able to receive treatment with a local anesthetic.

Dr. Myers will begin by cleaning the tooth of any diseased tissue. The tooth will be gently scraped clean and thoroughly washed. Once prepared, the chosen dental filling material will be placed into the site and sculpted into place for comfort and aesthetics. A special light will be used to activate the drying agent, forming a tight seal. Dental fillings are designed to secure the structure of the tooth while reducing the risk of future decay on that tooth.

For an inlay or onlay, Dr. Myers will take an impression of the prepared and cleaned tooth. The impression will be sent to a dental lab for fabrication. The patient will be asked to return to our Emerald Isle dentist office once the restoration is complete for a final placement and fit.
