Dental Implants An Overview
Missing teeth can compromise more than just your oral health. Missing or lost teeth can impact your quality of life and self-confidence. Dr. Aubrey Myers understands the embarrassment and stress that comes along with losing your teeth. Our Emerald Isle, NC dentist office offers a range of options to replace missing teeth.
Dental implants are a natural way to replace missing teeth. Dental implants can be used to replace one missing tooth or a full arch of missing teeth when used to secure a dental bridge or denture. Dental implants are surgically implanted into the jaw bone, effectively replacing the missing tooth root and stabilizing your jaw bone.

- Long lasting
Dental Implants What to Expect
Receiving dental implants is a multi-step process. Dental implants are permanent and long lasting dental restoration that looks and functions like a natural tooth. The prosthetic tooth system allows patients to enjoy a diet with out restriction and confidence in their beautiful smile. Dr. Myers coordinates with local oral surgeons to complete the operational phase of the dental implant treatment, the implantation of the titanium post.
Treatment Planning Phase
Dental implants often require substantial healthy bone structure for a successful, lasting result. Careful planning and strategic placement of dental implants will optimize existing healthy bone. The number and placement of implants will vary depending on the patient’s oral health needs and the number and location of missing teeth.
Dr. Myers will work with a local oral surgeon to schedule a date for the implant procedure. This part of the process takes about 3-6 months to heal fully. During this time the implant begins to fuse with the jaw bone securing a stable and permanent bond. The patient will return to Dr. Myers’ Emerald Isle dentist office to be fitted with their final dental restoration. In the interim, the patient may receive a temporary dental restoration.
Once healed, an abutment is attached to the top of the implant. This abutment is used to permanently secure a final dental restoration. The type of dental restoration used depends on the number of implants and needs of the patient. A dental crown, bridge or denture is attached to the dental implant(s). The dental restoration is custom designed and fit to match surrounding natural teeth. Once secure, your new smile will feel like it has always been there and you can enjoy the best possible quality of life.
Dr. Myers will make personalized recommendations for maintaining your oral hygiene and the integrity of your new implants or implant supported dental appliance. Routine dental care is just as important, providing the opportunity for us to monitor the condition of your new implants, gum tissue and any remaining natural teeth.
