Inlays & Onlays Emerald Isle, NC

Inlay & Onlay An Overview

Inlay and onlays are often used to restore a tooth that has advanced tooth decay or damage. Dr. Audrey Myers may recommend an inlay or onlay for repairing a tooth that needs more than a dental filling but requires more conservative treatment than a dental crown.

We offer a range of cosmetic and restorative treatments for the repair of damaged teeth. Dr. Myers will provide a thorough oral health exam to help patient determine which treatment option will provide long term oral health and stability. Dr. Myers has over 19 years of experience providing natural and durable results using dental inlay & onlays for the treatment of tooth decay.

Inlay V. Onlay

  • Inlay- An inlay is used to treat decay or damage to the interior contours of the tooth. An inlay is commonly used to treat large surface areas of damage.
  • Onlay- An onlay covers the crown or top of the tooth conforming to the crevices of the natural tooth surface. This is a common place for decay because it can be difficult to thoroughly clean.

Inlays and onlays are made of a high-quality porcelain that restores the function and aesthetics of the damaged tooth. Inlays and onlays are long lasting and durable dental restorations that are both decay and stain resistant.

The inlay or onlay is designed to make the tooth stronger and prevent further decay or trauma to the tooth. Porcelain inlay or onlays can be color matched to blend seamlessly with the patient’s natural smile.

Inlay & Onlay What to Expect

Porcelain inlays and onlays used as an alternative to traditional tooth fillings.Traditional tooth colored dental fillings are injected into the tooth where an inlay or onlay is fabricated in a dental laboratory and then bonded to the tooth.

The damaged or decayed tooth will have all diseased tissue removed and then will be thoroughly cleaned. Dr. Myers will take impressions of the tooth. The impressions will be sent to a dental lab where the inlay or onlay will be fabricated. The restoration will be made from high-quality dental porcelain and color matched to blend with your tooth.

Once the dental inlay or onlay has been created, the patient will return to our Emerald Isle, NC dentist office. The restoration will be permanently bonded to the tooth for a secure and functional restoration.
